Thumbs up for Tiger medics

RICHMOND president Gary March yesterday added his voice to the chorus of support for the club's medical staff.
In the wake of veteran forward Matthew Richardson's 10-12 week lay-off and the round-one hamstring injury to Ben Cousins, March said the medical staff had no case to answer.
Richardson partially tore his hamstring tendon from the bone against Sydney in round six, but said afterwards he had 100 per cent faith in the club's medical staff.
He went into the Swans game after suffering a gluteal strain the week before, but said he was fully recovered and ready to play.
"We've come under a lot of scrutiny," March said before yesterday's game against the Brisbane Lions.
He said the club regularly reviewed the performance of the medical staff, particularly in relation to soft-tissue injuries.
"Our performance in that area is in the top quartile of all clubs in the competition," March said.
"I'd seen Matthew train (before the Swans game) and he did a full training session and got through as good as anyone.
"He went up (to Sydney) and put his hand up to play … it was left in his hands and the medical staff cleared him.
"He had the injury in rounds one and two (this year) and was our best player, but no one was questioning whether the medical staff should put him out there. They do an outstanding job and at the end of the day it's the decision of the player.
"When Matthew Richardson, who's played 17 seasons, says 'I'm ready to go', I can't understand why our medical staff come under criticism."
March also dismissed comments made last week by former West Coast player Karl Langdon, who said Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse was bound for Punt Road next year on a four-year deal.
"We haven't even started to look at our coaching position," March said.
Terry Wallace is in the final season of his five-year coaching term at Richmond and already stated anything short of a finals appearance would make it difficult for him to get an extension.
"This speculation is going to go on and on," the president said.
"All we can do is keep saying what we've been saying (and) we'll be reviewing our coaching position in due course.
"We'll go through a proper process, we won't be making handshake-agreements with anyone and when we do get around to appointing our coach, we'll go through a proper process led by (chief executive) Steven Wright and his team."
