Bond not ruling out return to Tigers as Wallace goes
4th June 2009, 8:15 WST

Senior Fremantle official Chris Bond has not ruled out throwing his hat into the Richmond coaching ring.

Bond, the Dockers’ football operations general manager, has an intrinsic understanding of the turbulent club’s machinations, having played 100 games for the Tigers in five seasons and claiming their best and fairest award in 1994.

The 40-year-old offered a “no comment” when asked by The West Australian about his coaching intentions at Richmond.

An unsuccessful applicant for the senior role at both St Kilda and Carlton recently, Bond returned to Fremantle after the 2007 season as general manager of list development and to keep tabs on the opposition.

He has progressed this season into football administration and would seemingly return to Punt Road only in a similar role, currently held by Craig Cameron, or as senior coach.

Bond is regarded as a $15 chance by Sportingbet Australia to be Richmond’s main man in 2010, with former Tigers teammate Wayne Campbell heading the market at $3.75.

Though he was frustrated at his inability to nail down a senior position, Bond does have appeal.

He served as a long-term assistant at the Western Bulldogs under both Peter Rohde and Rodney Eade and has coached in his own right, at VFL level with Werribee.

Terry Wallace will tomorrow night coach Richmond for the 99th and final time, ironically against the Bulldogs, the club he left in dramatic circumstances late in 2002.
