Umpires will always make a wrong call at some point in time regardless of who is playing.

In the Cats Saints game with two mins to go in that passage where for the most part the maggots put away the whistle they gave a free to Joel Corey on the Cats attacking 50 yet wrongly paid advantage and St Kilda whisked the ball away which resulted in Gardiners mark and goal.

But this just backs up my point. The umps were too p|ssweak and passive to bring play back. The St Kilda players probably would have been up in arms asking why they weren't paid a free in their 50. They were hoping that Geelong played on and kicked a goal as it would have absolved them from any role in the goal. In the end they got into trouble as you say.
