Craig Cameron on 3aw @ 1.30pm
« on: July 11, 2009, 01:51:49 PM »
* Cometti asked has there been a week this year where Richmond hasn't been in the paper for 3 of the 5 weekdays. Cameron replied there's been a couple of weeks I haven't had to read the paper (laughs)

* Sheeds - People externally to the RFC have spoken quite a lot about it but not internally. Sheeds is quite happy to go through the process and he'll do the full process.

* There's 15 candidates
1st phase - interview with the coaching subcommittee panel
2nd phase - rigorous football evaluation- Views on gamestyle, their vision of the game, how they want to coach. About 5-6 candidates will reach this phase.
3rd phase - final presentation to the whole Board by the final 3 candidates.

* It's not up to the football club to expose the candidates. If the candidates want to say they are in it then that's their business and we're okay with that.

* We've tapped a few managers on the shoulder to see if their client is interested for those coaches still in the finals race.

* Respect Sheeds to much to put him through the process for nothing.

* Final Decision? - Possibly end of the season but we just want to get it right. It's very important for the RFC to get the right person for the next 5 years.

Malthouse? - we'll be interested in the best candidates. Not the answer you wanted Mike but that's the answer.

Rawlings? - hard for a guy to take over from someone else midseason. We want(ed) to assess and evaluate our list for the future. So no decisions week to week from the Club on who Jade should play but we told him at the start of Jade's reign we wanted to evaluate the list.

* We have only 7 players in the 24-28 age bracket. It's meant to be these players that set you up for finals/premierships. Geelong has 17 for instance.

* We're going to invest heavily into the draft. Not going to comment on 30 year olds except to say in 2 years time they most likely won't be around. So we'll be a very young side and so we want to be able to develop our young players.

* Richo? - he's ahead of schedule. He'll be right to play in round 18-19 so we'll need to make a decision whether to risk playing him or not. No reason why he won't be around next year but we need to evaluate him when he comes back.

* Wouldn't give out candidates names even when Mike pushed about Hardwick and Hinkley.

* I got interrupted here but Bucks asked about Lids and Tambling being forced to play straight away and did that hinder their natural development. Cameron spoke about it's difficult for a 17-18 y.o. kid. Kids can lose 2-3 years development.

* Bowden? Mike thought his last month before he got dropped was very good. Cameron said we wanted to play a different style out of the backline. Less "stodgy".

* Farewell game for Bowden and Brown? - Craig said he's not in a position to retire them.

That's the best thing we've heard out of the club. About time. Let's hope Cameron sticks to his word.
