3aw were talking about us tanking in the last game in 2007 and Connolly mentioned how did we know we'd get Cotchin when Carlton had the first pick and hadn't decided who they would take. So there was a hole in the whole scenario about us chasing Cotchin.

Shaw then replied well there's 6 or 7 kids from that 2007 top 10 or so that are better than Cotchin from what we've seen so far anyway. He did give the condition that Cotchin has had injuries so we'll know more in a few years but sheesh he hates Richmond.

This from a man who was Frawley's mentor and managed to run into a tree during a marathon fun run.  Without any shadow of a doubt, he is THE most unintelligent toss-pot among a list of strongly credentialed candidates in the circus that calls itself football media.

Okay I'll bite. From the first round (top 17) excluding Kreuzer who was already taken before Cotch only Rioli and  Dangerfield would have claims to be better than Cotch. Harry Taylor has slotted into the Geelong backline but it helps having a gun midfield and Scarlett and co. around him so I'd still have Cotch ahead of him and the others long term. Palmer won the Rising Star last year but he can't kick. Shaw conveniently forgot that Cotch came 3rd last year in it despite playing only half the year and he hasn't had a preseason at all yet.

An injury free pre season and a good finish to this year should ensure Trent be on fire for the whole of next year and make Shaw eat more than words. Players of the calibre of Cotch don't lose their class they just take their time to find their match fitness.

And people of the calibre of Tony Shaw don't get paid to make intelligent comments.  He has already won Tosspot of the Year and he's well in front to win Flogbag of the Year too.

from the RFC site....

Rawlings is also drooling at the prospect of seeing second-year Tiger Trent Cotchin with a pre-season under his belt – he has yet to complete one due to injury.

"I am [very excited]. That's why I want to coach him for the future," he said.

"He was crook on the Friday of last week, so we just nipped it in the bud and said, 'You're not playing another game of league footy under the duress you've been suffering for a couple of games'.

"So we made a decision [not to play him last round] and he bolted into the office during the week and looked like a different guy – he was fresh and had his energy back.

"He's still short of a gallop … but he's as clean a younger player as I've ever seen below his feet – to be able to absorb tackles and execute efficiently."

Cotch's ability to stand up in a tackle and still have the vision to get a 20m handball over his shoulder to a teammate in space is freakish. He did it time and time again today. He's now getting his match fitness back which enables him to burst away from stoppages and weave around opponents into space. I reckon he set up 4 of our 5 second quarter goals which in end set up the win.

  • Yes Hampson has taken a mark!
That dodge and weave he did at centre half back today under extreme pressure which eventually lead to a goal was astounding! He has all the hallmarks of a young GAJ.

Well Tony, quoting an old phrase, "Better a man to keep his mouth shut and for people to think him a fool, than to open it and prove it!"
