Tigers caretaker coach to join Lions

Jess Hogan | September 15, 2009 - 12:51PM

Richmond's 2009 caretaker coach, Jade Rawlings, has quit the club to become an assistant at the Brisbane Lions under Michael Voss.

Richmond would not confirm Rawlings' move and Brisbane could not be contacted immediately, however it is believed the 31-year-old has been released from his contract to join the Lions.

The move comes a day after Brisbane released three of its assistant coaches from this season: Chris Johnson, Wayne Brittain and Craig Brittain.

Another assistant, Justin Leppitsch, is believed to be attracting interest from Victorian clubs.

Rawlings coached the Tigers' last 11 matches this season, stepping in after the resignation of Terry Wallace.

He made the final four candidates for the club's full-time senior coaching role but was passed over for Damien Hardwick.

After Richmond's round 21 loss to Hawthorn, Rawlings, who had found out the previous day he had not made the final two, said he doubted whether the new coach would want him remaining.

"I personally would think that it would be hard for someone who gets appointed to have me around," he said.

"[Because of] my passion for the job and my attachment to this group someone may think I've got some sort of worth but that will work itself out, I'm sure."
