Next up is Whitey.

22 y.o Matty played 16 games this season for a total of 54 since debuting in 2006. Best performance for the year was in our win over North in round 5 where he had 24 disposals, 6 tackles and a goal.

So Keep or Trade?

Stats like that are only just good enough for a 22 year old player.  I'd be looking to trade him if the right deal came up as we have many in his age range but only if the right deal came up.

If we do keep him I would want a marked improvement next year.  He is entering into his prime now and really must play at a higher level regularly.

Interesting and valid points, tucky and MT! Can i add and could you elaborate?
A friend of mine held a coaching position at Coburg and he was very frustrated at the lack of committment he recieved from dropped senior players! He said they seemed to not care much about training and that there seemed to be a lack of accountabilty to the senior coaching panel! This relayed to me perhaps 5 years and im wondering, is this still the case? Is this what Rawlings was attemtiing to turn around?
Sorry GR12. I missed your post.

All I know is McRae when he became Coburg coach was openly very "frustrated" for want of a better word with senior Richmond players who had been dropped back to Coburg under Rawlings. I guess when certain players know their time is up that even reading them the riot act can't change a can't be stuffed anymore attitude.

Would you have cared?  Rawlings dropped 5 in his first game and then spouted some bollocks that they could make it back.  I didn't believe it then and neither did the players who probably knew their head was on the block.

Out: Joel Bowden, Jordan McMahon, Kayne Pettifer, Mark Coughlan, Troy Simmonds

3 are gone, 2 hang on by the skin of their teeth, Simmonds is only backup and may not get a game next year, McMahon may still be traded.

All they were playing for was a final exit game, a chance to exit with some dignity and Pettifer didn't even get that.

Just a player by league standards. Extremely mediocre.
I doubt he would even be considered for a spot in most club's final 22.

Not fussed if he stays or goes but I would put his name on the trade table to see what he attracts if anything.

I am pretty sure that one D. Jackson had very similar stats last year and look what happened to him after a great pre-season (and change of role). I think he still has lots of improvement in him and if he works hard, he can be a valuable player.

His biggest problem at the moment is he takes a few two many steps and doesn't dish off the ball when he should and ends up getting caught or passing it to a player who is now under pressure.

I'm not a big fan of his but my sister is so I will stick up for him  ;D
