ESSENDON young gun Michael Hurley has left Fitzroy police station after being questioned over an alleged altercation with a cabbie on Hoddle St this morning.

Hurley left the station just before midday via a side exit to avoid the media and was driven away.

Essendon Football Club General Manager of Football Operations Paul Hamilton confirmed Hurley had been involved in an incident overnight.

''He's currently assisting police with their inquiries and we will put out a further statement later in the day once we've established all the facts,'' he said outside Fitzroy Police station.

''I can't say a lot more than that.''

Mr Hamilton said Hurley had not been charged with any offence.

Police have confirmed that a 19-year-old from Rosanna has been arrested over an altercation with a cab driver in Hoddle St.

The Herald Sun understands the player was picked up by a taxi outside a South Melbourne nightclub about 5.30 this morning and went to a Hungry Jacks fast food outlet in Hoddle St.

He left the taxi for some food and when the cabbie pursued him asking for his fare, the player kicked the driver in the groin and punched him.

Police were called and arrested the player at the scene before taking him to Fitzroy police station where he is being interviewed.

The cabbie, believed to be an Indian man, received minor injuries in the incident.
