Where's the club at?
The Tigers went backwards at a rate of knots in 2009. The club finished ninth in 2008, and won eight of its last 11 matches, including a cracking win over eventual premiers Hawthorn. This year, they finished 15th, won a total of five games (and a draw) and lost their last four games by a total of 45 goals. New coach Damien Hardwick is promising plenty of work with the footy over summer, which is required, as the Tigers excelled this year in giving away goals off turnovers.

What they need
Richmond's backline is well served for both talls and smalls, but the midfield is short both inside and outside, and the probable loss of Shane Tuck will reduce their ability to get first hands on the pill, so a replacement there would be nice, but preferably one who can distribute it to a teammate.

But it is forward where the most obvious issues lie, with the Tigers 13th on the scoring ladder, beating only Fremantle, North Melbourne and Melbourne. You could argue they were starved of opportunities inside the forward 50, but that would only partly tell the story. Jack Riewoldt and Mitch Morton kicked 32 and 41 goals respectively, whereas in 2008, Matthew Richardson kicked 48 off his own boot from the wing.

Tradeable commodities
There's not a lot at the Tigers to get other clubs salivating. Shane Tuck and Andrew Raines have requested trades, but they won't attract much in return.

Crystal ball trades
Raines looks most likely to go to the Brisbane Lions, probably for a third-round pick, while Shane Tuck is an unknown – he gets the ball endlessly, but is far too prone to giving it straight back and getting the Tigers burned on the rebound.

Nathan Brown wants to go elsewhere, but his best football was before his horrific broken leg, which was years ago, so he's unlikely to find a new home.
