Chelsea Tiger fans united

A SHARED love of the Richmond Football Club has proved a winner in the game of love for Ellie and Keith Cleaver.

The Chelsea couple, who will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on November 5, are lifelong Tigers supporters while Mr Cleaver was a longtime trainer at the club.

“There is no other team in my book,” Mrs Cleaver, 80, said.

“Footy was our lives.”

Mrs Cleaver, born in Richmond South, was a professional dancer, model and worked as a weaver.

Mr Cleaver, from Richmond North, worked as a trainer at the Richmond Football Club between 1954 and 1977, helping the team to five grand finals.

The 84-year-old was also a physical education teacher for 28 years and silversmith.

The pair met while taking dance lessons at the Australian Dancing Society.

“She was beautiful,” Mr Cleaver said.

They married at St Stephen’s Anglican Church, in Richmond of course, on November 5, 1949.

Mr and Mrs Cleaver moved to Chelsea 13 years ago and said communication made their marriage work.
