Richmond Tigers to roar into Ballarat
Ballarat Courier
14 Feb, 2010 11:51 PM

RICHMOND will continue its AFL pre-season campaign in Ballarat.

The Tigers will play in a NAB Challenge game at Eureka Stadium on March 6 after losing in the first round of the NAB Cup to Hawthorn by 73 points on Saturday night.

Their opponent will be the loser of Geelong and North Melbourne, who battle at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The Tigers played six debutants in its loss at Aurora Stadium in Hobart, including former North Ballarat Rebel tall David Astbury who goaled with his first kick.

The return of the NAB Challenge series to Ballarat follows an extensive upgrade of the playing surface at Eureka Stadium last year.

North Melbourne has adopted the venue for two intra-club matches already this month.

North Ballarat Football Cub chief executive officer Mark Patterson said more AFL clubs were finding the travel to Ballarat and the facilities available on-par with top metropolitan grounds.

"Ballarat's proximity to Melbourne is no longer seen as an impediment and is now comparative to outer suburban facilities such as Casey fields in Cranbourne," Mr Patterson said.

"With such excellent support for the Kangaroos' first intra-club match, we are anticipating strong support from Ballarat and the Western districts."

The NAB Challenge game kicks off at 2pm is expected to attract a bumper crowd on the long weekend.

Planning for the day is well under way and is drawing on support from the district's football leagues, the City of Ballarat, Victorian Country Football League and the North Ballarat Football and Sports Club.

An estimated crowd of 2500 attended the Kangaroos first intra-club match at Eureka Stadium earlier in the month, which coincided with a weeklong community camp which included school visits and other clinics.

Are we playing an intra-club this weekend?

Why aren't we playing Essendon or something, it's a free weekend for both sides.

Just picked up tickets for the YEA game that is on the 27/2/2010 from Etihad Stadium

They still had a fair number of tickets for anyone interested

NB: From Dockalnds you don't purchase them from the normal ticket windows. You need to go to Gate 8 and take the lift downstairs to level B2 and go to the AFL Membership services office and you must PAY BY CASH

 :gotigers

And as mentioned by tigaersalive - we ar enot playing this week. All practice matches kick in after the first round of the NAB cup. For memory they aren't even allowed to play another intra-club match

very silly how the practices match are set out!

they should of played all eight matches last weekend!

we should play 4 practice matches (including one NAB Cup).

have one week off before Round 1!

i think they designed the NAB Cup one week too early!

 :)

I think they should 'p' the NAB Cup off entirely and lengthen the season proper.

Richmond to NOT play in Ballarat on March 6 (Ballarat Courier)

The North Ballarat footy club got it wrong.....

Richmond to play next match at Yea
15 Feb, 2010 03:51 PM

RICHMOND will not continue its pre-season campaign in Ballarat just yet.

A press release from North Ballarat Football Club, published in The Courier today, incorrectly stated the Tigers would meet the loser of Geelong and North Melbourne at Ballarat in its next NAB Challenge match.

That match will be played in Yea on February 27.

The AFL confirmed Eureka Stadium Ballarat would definitely host an NAB Challenge match but in week two of the series with a fixture yet to be determined.

Looks like we will be playing the Cats next week. The Roos are giving them a bit of a football lesson at the moment.
