Great game by Cotch last night.

Can't believe those rumours were circulating saying he was gone because of injuries.

Best thing last night was seeing Cotch, Lids and Martin go about their business, just wait to we get a decent side around them.

Cotchin was amazing yesterday.

I thought Newman also was very good.

I just love the way Cotchin goes about it, makes an effort to get to everyone and tap them on the back and he isn't afraid to scruff it up was in 2 tussles one with Lake and one with another. Just good to see his passion and keeness for the side.

I think what obvious with the whole team no change of coach, captain or trade will change things in a hurry, it's just going to be a long transformation and development in time.

as hard as it is to watch this is very true..

its going to be a long hard road

We should auction off "honourary captain" to the public, let them lead us out (and maybe play by round ten) and put the money in a term deposit till free agency
In all seriousness what do we know about cotchin at this stage?

Again another introverted choice of man just like Johnson was.

A bloke who can hold men in the palm of his hand and get them to follow his lead unequivocally without question is the way to go.

Newman is a good soldier but a poor leader. What we need is an excellent soldier who is a good leader.

Has to be a midfielder or a forward who can inspire with his on field actions. A captains mark a captains goal a captain who puts his head over the ball takes a blow while he is bent over and gets up with the ball whilst his opponent is writhing in pain.

Ie Jonathon Brown, Wayne Carey, Michael Voss.

The days of the loyal gritty back pocket/backman player who unassumingly plays 200 games ala Chris McDermott, Danny Frawley are over.

You need a fresh approach someone with the spirit noise vigor good looks and power of XA GT 351 with the deftness and touch of a Rudolf Nureyev and a man of grace words and an undying spirit like Winston Churchill.

Newman is not that man.

PS the XA GT 351 can easily be substituted as a HQ 308 Monaro for our Holden friends.
 :thumbsup

So true. Newman is not a captain's sausage sizzler. Played like a loose man in defence most of the night, even though he actually had a forward to mind. Too many times when he got the ball he would hand off to players such as jackson and connors who are lesser kicks than him and not in any better position. It was like he did not want the resposability.

Before he became captain, at least sometimes he would run and kick long to the forward line.

I don't know what leadership qualities he shows around the club, but he shows none on the ground come match day
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

All pretty good posts. My personal beliefe is that Newman doesn't and never has even wanted to be captain. He is the sort of bloke (imo) that would prefer to just be a player and not have the responsibillity of captain. I like the idea of Cotch as captain next year and this would also ensure he stays a Tiger for a long time yet.
I think it would fast track his maturity as a footballer and as a few have said, would allow him to grow into the roll as well as grow with his team mates.
