The thing about patience is that we were patient with Frawley, patient with Wallace. No one would argue that either of those deserved 5 years (more than 1 year though) so that's why there is this reflex to someone saying patience is the answer. Patience has proved as destructive (if not more given the state of our list) as pulling the trigger too soon.

I would expect good management to make a tough decision on Hardwick if it was required. As unpalatable as it was at the time when all of us were dreaming of our next supercoach, maybe someone like Laidley with a point to prove, a bit more in the way of resources and already wary of the mistakes he made and how to correct them would have been the go.

Thats about the crux of it Jake, if required. 7 weeks into his first season is a bit too early to be making such calls.

Also important to be aware of what hardwick has said he will deliver.

He has not promised to deliver success, but he has said he will deliver the blueprint for success. He needs to change the whole culture of the club first. Get rid of the playing for yourself attitude. Get players sheparding rather than peeling off hoping for an easy possession. Working hard to create space when in possession or to get to a contest to help out a teammate.

His mantra appears to be to get a team that works hard and plays for each other which hopefully will be the springboard for success. Whether he has the footy nouse to then take advantage of this "transformation" only time will tell.

No one has enjoyed the seemingly endless period of crapness, time and time again waiting for a coach to deliver. No one enjoys watching our young side getting belted week in week out. For the first time in a long time though, the side we are putting on the park is matching the opposition in contested possessions. They are causing turnovers by pressuring the opposition. The tackle counts are up on the wallace era and the club has shown that players need to toe the line.

There is still a long, long way to go, but I can see more positives, from a long term point of view, right now than at any stage last year.

It wouldn't matter who we had steering the ship right now, we would still need patience, unless you want to take short cuts for short term benefit.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

The thing is this

2003 Miller said it will be 2007 before we are any good.
2007 on the eve of the season the stale KFC thigh piece said 2011.

It's 2010 and we have only just started the rebuild.

Rather than go into the obvious I'll just say it says alot about our club and nothing has been proven yet
with his regime. It's faaarken scary and I only hope Hardwick and co do more than a few things right.
GIving them a chance and being patient unfortunantely is all we can do right now and probably until Hardwick either negotiates his new contract or we start trawling the rumour mills on the net to see who our next coach is.
