May 17, 2010 - 7:48PMWA Police and the Fremantle Dockers have confirmed defender Michael Johnson is being investigated over a drug-related matter from the weekend.
It is believed the matter involves cocaine, which was revealed by the AFL last week as the drug of choice among footballers who take illicit substances.
"WA Police are investigating a drug-related matter on the weekend involving a current AFL player," a police statement said.
"No charges have been laid at this stage and no further details are available for release.
"We will be making no further comment until the investigation has been concluded."
Fremantle later confirmed that player was Johnson, 25, an experienced defender in the young Dockers side.
"The club is aware of the matter and has informed the AFL," Dockers CEO Steve Rosich said.
"We are treating it very seriously. We are currently gathering all relevant information and will make further comment when we are in a position to do so.
"There will be no comment from the club until that time."
