Leppitsch on SEN
« on: July 05, 2010, 03:28:15 PM »
Leppa was on SEN's morning glory this morning with Tim Watson and Andrew Maher......

Here's the audio:

Summary

* Group has jumped a few big hurdles past month and this is the biggest given quality of opposition and clawing our way back against. Shows good leadership amongst the group.

* Was Martin's goal the turning post? Commentator said it was Dusty's trademark whic is pretty funny to have a trademark already after just 14 games. Some of his work is magic for a 19 year old. We know he's a very good contested ball player. Lots of small acts throughout the day. Our tackling and contested work has improved markedly over the last 6 weeks.

* Leppa feels lucky to have seen two quite strong youngsters in Rich at Brisbane and now Martin come through in their first year and have a massive impact for their team. Will probably finish in a good position in their club's B&F. Joel Selwood would've be very similar at Geelong. Not far between them are they.

* Newman is a fantastic and underrated leader. It was a real focus from the leadership group this week to keep on taking new steps and new challenges. Not just Chris but also Lids and Jacko who was terrific again. We're really growing each week. The more the weeks go by the belief in the gameplan and moreso knowledge of the gameplan ....... early days you could see they were thinking out on the field rather than doing. Trying to do the right thing but really doing nothing. Now they've got their knowledge up and increments like that the confidence has gone up.

* He didn't see Collo when he came off so not 100% sure but apparently Collo told Hardwick he wanted to go back on straight away. He's a very underrated mark. A strange body lol where he is quite tall and wirey and looks to be a ground level player but has good marking ability as well. He's come from nowhere at pick 71. Started the year out of the team but has come through for us. He's one of those middle tier types who could go either way but is now starting to show some really good form.

* Watson asked if the plan was to get outside those lockdown stoppages the Swans are very good at as once you did you could rip them apart?
Yeah one thing Sydney does is not let you run. They don't allow you to spread. They have numbers around the periphery of the stoppage just to mark it harder for you to get the ball through there. Really good at those 1%ers to close down the opposition's run. We kept grinding away and eventually found space in the last quarter. Credit to our team that if we can get it out on the outside we've been finishing well recently. The ability to kept grinding away when the opposition was locking us down was the best part of yesterday's game for us.

* Yes they (us supporters) are very loud and very passionate. He has 5 or 6 family members who barrack for Richmond so he knows how crazy they are lol. When you see all the supporters together and see how loud they are I've never seen anything like it. We've also got Brendan Lade from Port Adelaide where they are lucky to get 3000 to their home games. So he also sometimes look in amazement at such a large group passionate about their club.

Sounds like Leppa was a Tiger supporter as a kid, is this a safe presumption?
