Hird interview.

Ben Cousins. Will he play next year?

Geez, a hard (one), Hirdy.

Look, that's a list management (issue). All Ben can do at the moment is do what he does well, (which) is play footy. He's going really, really well.

Obviously, last week he had a setback. But from our point of view he's putting his best foot forward.

But there's a lot of things that come into play. We don't quite know which way the AFL are going to go - whether they're going to cap rotations, which is obviously going to have an impact. Whether Ben's body is going to go forward from that point of view.

Is it totally in his hands if he has a great seven weeks, or are there other factors?

No, there's other factors that will come into it and myself, (football manager) Craig Cameron and our match committee will sit down and decide what's the best thing, because Ben, whilst he's an important player for us at the moment and playing very, very well, you know there are some players that will at some stage go past him.

And that's our decision that we've got to make.

Last question on Ben. Your thoughts when you found out he was in hospital?

I thought they were joking when they first told me.

But then it was very alarming to hear that one of your players (is) in intensive care.

And then the fact that his girlfriend was very traumatised by the whole thing, finding him, which was concerning, and then, you know, I'm much like you.

I'm a big family man, so then our concern was Ben's parents, who were obviously in Perth. So we were trying to keep them informed. It was very, very hard.

It was a day I don't really want to go through again.

Surely DH can see the value of Cuzzi

Do you think he's for or against Ben continuing on in 2011.

Possibly a ploy to let BC know he wont be taking any of his bull shi r if he goes around one more time ;)?

I hope you are right! I would love to see BC go around again! Leadership and presence is worth more than stats sometimes!

I reckon he is not one way or another to be honest. Some days it would be a massive YEP other days it would be "no we need that spot for another kid"

I think it is going to depend on alot of things. If it was just a case of keeping him for his experience, leadership and how he still plays and reads the gaem it would a yes without hesitation.

But Dimma makes a very valid point if the AFL in their wisdom (read stupidity) decide to cap the number of interchanges per game (IMHO they shouldn't) then the ability for any club to keep older players that they now player more as an impact player off the bench is diminished

Personally and I've said this all year (even when others have said he should go) he should play on in 2011. His value to this team cannot be measured by the number of kicks & handballs he has every week

It's an internal striving to serve political correctness and an unfortunate one at that.even cowardly.

Not in Hardwick's eyes, wasn't happy with cus on the day. That by the way has nothing to do why he wont be with us next year. I will be a little surprised if he is though.

Yes he was critical of Ben handpassing too much in the conditions, but I don't know about unhappy
