Tigers bank on youth

Richmond’s trade-week strategy is consistent with its overall philosophy of investing in a youth-led resurgence.

That’s why the Tigers have acted to strengthen their position in this year’s National Draft, as well as targeting two young players from rival clubs - Carlton’s Shaun Grigg and Essendon’s Bachar Houli - who they believe can play valuable roles in the Club’s revival plans.

Earlier this week, Richmond secured two draft selections from the Adelaide Crows in a trade deal for Richard Tambling - a compensation pick at the end of the first round, and a third-round pick.

The Club will continue to protect its prime selections for the November Draft in any dealings over the remainder of the trade period.

Richmond’s desire to further replenish its youth stocks follows the recent re-signings of Jack Riewoldt, Dustin Martin, Daniel Connors, Angus Graham, Ty Vickery, Matt White and Jayden Post, who are all in the 19-23-year age bracket, and regarded as key players in the Club’s quest for sustained success.

Reliable defender, Kevin Moore, 26, has also signed a new deal with the Tigers, while early this year, young gun midfielder, Trent Cotchin, agreed to terms on a contract extension, which will see him remain at Punt Road at least until the end of 2013.

Graham is our number one ruck. It falls away very quickly beyond him. Vickery may turn into a great player but we can't afford Graham not playing for at least the next few years. The contract extension is a sensible move. Connors likewise is a natural talent and (hopefully) with his immature attitude behind him, is well worth a least the next couple of years at the club.

Yah, stick with youth!! Yaaaah.

 :clapping  :cheers

I wonder about Houli and Grigg though, I am hoping the recruiters know a bit more than the general perception of both of those players.

Im pretty sure they have seen them a bit more than those who form this public perception.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

Ther perception out there is Houli aint much chop, much like another hack Mcmahon who was playing reserves when we recruited him

He has played not even 30 games in what 4 years, what does that tell you?

Grigg from what ive seen is worth perservering via PSD with, but a 180 cms Houli i cant understand why we would bother especially if we are talking of a trade with Collins who i rate and gets better and better every year
Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

I know fully what what the perception is.

I also know the perception is based on very little actual knowledge and questionable logic.

Perhaps Richmond should be run like some dysfunctional hippie commune trying to live the socialist dream?
Put all football department decisions to vote amongst the members, because after all, the the perception of the internet nuffers should override what is now a fully resourced recruitment department?

That way the clubs decisions would follow the perceptions of the internet public, truly a path for glory. :thumbsup

Your lists are getting smaller claw.
Obviously you're pretty happy with the direction the club is taking, even if it almost pains you to admit it. ;D
