Benny Gale on SEN @ 12.30pm
« on: October 28, 2010, 12:38:50 PM »
Benny was just on SEN:

* Later this arvo we will be releasing our membership drive - "The Tiger is Stirring". User friendly membership site.

* Slogan - accurate reflection of where we are and where we want ot get to. Still a long way to go but we'll get there.

* Issue with building at the minute (someone went through one of the wires  :wallywink ).

* First half of season was tough but in the end every player on the list got a game. Hopefully we'll continue to project upwards.

* Trade week - happy. Football dept was very well prepared. We knew who we wanted to target - Grigg, Sherman and Houli. Sherman just wanted too much. Confident we'll get Houli in either the ND or PSD.

* Collins - one of those difficult situations. He's got a good character and his football did develop this year but we've liked Grigg for a while. Lots of upside. You need to give up something to get something. He had 1 year deal left and Carlton wanted him and gave him a 3-year. There's no room for sentiment.

* Grigg - strength and size in the midfield and also provides run and carry. Those with big bodies and are strong stand up under pressure in finals. We want to put a list together that will win us a premiership.

* Brad Miller - we're very young and lost a lot of experience. He ticks a couple of boxes. He's a useful player as he showed last year at Melbourne and in the ressies. Pinch hit and provide a role. Miller also is looking at a coaching role. Craig Cameron also knows him. He'll be a mature rookie so we aren't compromising our youth policy.

* Punt Rd - RFC and RCC relationship had been strained over the past 20 years. The cricket club will now be able to unite their 1sts, 2nds, 3rds, 4ths at the new facility the Government has created for them. Great for us too as we get 12-month access to Punt Rd with our new facilities. Would not have been able to do this without Vic Government support.

* Major Sponsor(s)? - sooner rather than later. We've put forward a couple of propsals and we've got decisions pending. It is difficult to get a major spon sor over the line but we're an exciting club with a young and upcoming list. Hopefully not too far away from making an announcement.

Although I think the trade was a sideways one for us that comment by Benny Gale is harshly true.

No comment  :whistle  ;D. Going by that it sounds like he'll be more than just a "back-up"  :P.
