Richmond reps in Tonga for Oceania footy carnival
« on: December 20, 2010, 07:46:14 AM »
ADELAIDE great Andrew McLeod relished coaching a group of indigenous 15-year-olds in an Oceania football carnival in Tonga over the past week.

McLeod coached the Flying Boomerangs in two exhibition matches, and said he had learnt almost as much from the experience as the teenagers under his wing.

Several Boomerangs players are already on the radar of AFL clubs, with Hawthorn, Geelong, Richmond, Adelaide and the Brisbane Lions among the clubs who sent representatives on the trip.

"I would say there's a group of these guys who will go on to play AFL footy," McLeod said. "I have no doubt about that at all."

Collingwood has Boomerangs star Elijah Edwards on a scholarship, ruckman Leonard Lyons has trained with the GWS Giants and New Zealand ruckman Kurt Heatherley will attend Caulfield Grammar after being picked up by Hawthorn.
