Coburg report (RFC)
« Reply #45 on: May 03, 2011, 05:16:30 PM »
Development coach, David Newett, provides a summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed at AFL level with Coburg in last Sunday’s clash with Williamstown . . .

Morton   26 possies
Hislop    25 possies
Browne  20 possies, 28 hitouts
Astbury  19 possies, 10 marks

Jeromey Webberley
Was the most damaging Coburg player on the day, rebounding from across half-back and using the ball efficiently.  Didn’t play the previous week due to the fact he was emergency for the Richmond team, and did his chance of promotion no harm with his display last Sunday.

Ben Griffiths (Coburg reserves)
Got through the allotted game time in his long-waited return to the playing field following his shoulder reconstruction last year.  His tackling pressure was good and he had a few scoring involvements.

Round 5 Match Reports Vs. Williamstown
Coburg website

SENIORS

We met Williamstown at Mantello Holden Oval on Sunday on what turned out to be a great day weather wise.

We had a lot of use of the ball early and Mitch Morton kicked the first goal and Justin Kahlefeldt the 2nd,but we didn’t score enough from our early forward entries which would have put some early scoreboard pressure on Williamstown.

We had good contributions by Webberely,Morton,Kahlefeldt and Hislop but still went into the first break 9 points down.

The 2nd quarter was disappointing as we failed to score, however we managed to restrict Williamstown to only 3 goals and headed into the main break 5 goals down.

Had we kicked straight in the 3rd quarter then the deficit could have been different as we kicked 1.6 to 4.4,and the margin went out to 47 points at the last change.

One encouraging thing is that we did not give up and kicked 5 goals in the final quarter, but Williamstown managed to kick 6 goals and we lost by 52 points.

The stats will show we had similar possession totals but our ball use must improve if we are to match a team like Williamstown, but it will come and we are on track to have a win in the coming weeks.

On the positive side, Justin Kahlefeldt played one of his best games for the club ,and first gamer Rowan Hore kicked 2 goals.David Fahey in only his 2nd senior game was far from disgraced playing down back and the ever reliable Andrew Browne continued his good form as did Michael Tanner.

COBURG:                         3.3          3.3          4.9          9.12-66
WILLIAMSTOWN:             4.6          7.10        11.14     17.16-118

Goalkickers:Hore 2,Kahlefedlt 2,Wbberley,Morton,Duhau,Derrickx,Ambrose

DEVELOPMENT

The group put up a great effort against a strong Williamstown outfit.

We managed to restrict them to just 1 goal up until halftime, but Williamstown came out in the 2nd half and kicked 11 goals to 5 and showed why they are a regular finals team.

Jamason Daniels and Damien Rayson took their demotion on the chin and put in some very solid efforts and young forward James Lawton kicked 5 goals.

Glenn Grgic gave us some good drive from the centre and around the ground and maybe considered for a senior game soon as the 23rd player.

Ben Griffiths played his first game for the season after having shoulder surgery and got through unscathed which was fantastic.

James Saville playing across half back is now playing some consistent footy and has hopefully now gotten over all his injuries and is due for a change of luck.

COBURG:                             1.1          4.5          6.9          9.11-65
WILLIAMSTOWN:                  0.3          1.5          5.10        12.14-86

Goalkickers:Lawton 5,Daniels,Westhoff,Griffiths,Pound

We have the bye this weekend and then we head down to Eureka Stadium in Ballarat on May 15th at 11am and 2pm.
