Telstra launches free AFL match replays

May 6, 2011

FROM today AFL fans can watch any game just 12 hours after the final siren and access a full season archive without having pay TV.

A new internet-based television station launches today through Telstra that is available free to anyone with a recent model Samsung or LG television, or with a Telstra T-Box device.

Downloads on BigPond accounts are unmetered and will not count towards customer download limits, according to Telstra's general manager of internet protocol television, Damon Jones.

Telstra's internet station includes the AFL ''game analyser'', archives of the 2010 grand final and every game played this season, National Rugby League games and archives, V8 Supercar races and archives and archives of horse races.

Full match replays will be available without advertising half a day after they are broadcasted on TV, but Telstra will be able to show games live when next year's new broadcasting rights kick in.

The analyser technology lets viewers skip straight to goals, marks, free kicks and penalties.

A similar product is currently available for NRL matches.
