Coburg Report
By Tony Greenberg
Wed 25 May, 2011

Development coach, David Newett, provides a summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed at AFL level with Coburg in last Sunday’s clash with Frankston . . .

David Gourdis
Another solid effort in defence, up against Frankston’s tall forwards.  Made a couple of errors, but stuck to his task, overall, and fought the game out.

Jeromey Webberley
Again found plenty of the ball and used his possessions to advantage.  Was more involved defensively, with improved tackling pressure.

Robbie Hicks
Was lively early, playing his role for the team, but had little impact as the game wore on.

Pat Contin
Linked up well off half-back, breaking the lines and using the ball to the team’s advantage.  Was also solid defensively.

Tom Derickx
Displayed a good work rate throughout the game.  Was competitive in the ruck, in aerial contests, and at ground level.  Looking for further impact around the ground to reward his efforts.

Tom Hislop
His third impressive performance in-a-row on the comeback trail from injury.  Worked hard throughout the game, both in the midfield and up forward.  Trademark strong tackling, along with marking, were features of his game.

David Astbury
A solid performance in defence.  Played to structures, took some good marks, and rebounded well.

Ben Griffiths
Showed encouraging signs in his first senior VFL game of the season, with good leading and chasing pressure.  Got more involved as the game progressed.

Dean MacDonald
Acquitted himself well in his first game at senior VFL level.  Showed particularly encouraging signs with his speed and good ball use.  Took a screamer and finished off with a long goal.

Ben Nason
Provided some glimpses offensively, but was down on the output normally expected from the lively small midfielder/forward.

Angus Graham
Not the sort of response the big ruckman needed in a bid to regain his place at AFL level with Richmond.  Did provide a contest at stoppages and around the ground, but more is expected from him.

Ben Jakobi  (Coburg reserves)
Promising signs in his second game back from injury in the reserves, playing both in defence and the midfield.

Nick Westhoff  (Coburg reserves)
Played forward, as well as behind the ball, and had an impact due to his improved work-rate and intensity.  Kicked four goals and was a valuable contributor in the reserves’ win.
