VFL and development coach, Craig McRae provides a summary of how the Tigers’ players performed in last Saturday's Round 8 win over Essendon at the Swinburne Centre.

Fraser Turner

25 disposals, nine handball receives, six inside-50s & three rebound-50s

“Continues his good form at VFL level—25 disposals, 10 contested (possessions) which is a real highlight, six inside-50s. He’s playing great footy; I think he’s looking more like an AFL player every week.”

Mabior Chol

23 disposals, 18 contested possessions, 12 clearances, six centre clearances, 22 hit-outs, seven marks, four tackles & one goal

“His best game for the footy club. He played as a ruck and a little bit of forward, he had to step-up with ‘CJ’ (Callum Coleman-Jones) getting his AFL opportunity. It’s as good as ‘Marbs’ has played for us and it was really significant in the result.”

Patrick Naish

23 disposals, nine handball receives, four clearances & three tackles

“23 disposals, 21 kicks and two handballs, he’s playing to his strengths. He’s another who’s really playing AFL football at VFL level.”

Dan Butler

20 disposals, nine handball receives, five tackles, four inside-50s & one goal

“Again, played with us this week, he kicked 1.3 this week as opposed to 3.1 last week, but his speed and his contested and contest-to-contest work is really standing out. He looks ready to play AFL footy again.”

Derek Eggmolesse-Smith

17 disposals, seven handball receives, four rebound-50s & two tackles

“His one-on-one contest work stood-out, he’s really looking like a much-improved player for us.”

Jack Graham

18 disposals, seven handball receives, two goals, three tackles & three clearances

“Returned from injury and played three quarters of the game. He kicked two critical goals, one from a really nice mark in the third quarter. 18 disposals with nine contested is a good return for him.”

Jacob Townsend

16 disposals, six marks, five tackles, one goal & five inside-50s

“Played forward and inside ‘mid’, kicked 1.2…he was really tough around the clinches and was important in the result as well.”

Jake Aarts

15 disposals, five marks, four tackles & two goals

“Played forward... he fought the game out well which was really important, particularly late, getting a critical clearance and setting up a goal for us.”

Riley Collier-Dawkins

13 disposals, four tackles & three clearances

“He came back after being a carry-over (player) last week and played as an inside ‘mid’, good around the contest, eight contested possessions of his 13 (disposals), three clearances. We just need to get him to spread to the outside to get involved in that part of the game.”

Oleg Markov

13 disposals, five marks, two tackles, two inside-50s & two rebound-50s

“He was physically ill on the day but won the ball back really well off half-back and there were a couple of patches in the third quarter in particular where he just continually rebounded for us. He looked like his ran on top of the ground even though he was unwell.”

Ben Miller

Four disposals, 23 hit-outs & one goal

“Played key forward and ruck, a low possession game for him. He took a nice mark and kicked a goal in the second quarter which was important. He played second ruck and had 23 hit-outs on the day which was a highlight.”
