February 19, 2012 THE AFL has grand plans to honour its 100 millionth patron through the MCG gates, most likely in Round 8 this year.
AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou confirmed this week that the league had done extensive research into the number of supporters to have watched matches at the MCG since competition started in 1897.
The 100,000,000 figure could be reached during the Geelong-Collingwood Grand Final rematch in May, or the Dreamtime at the 'G match between Essendon and Richmond.
The AFL is looking at ways in which it could reward the lucky ticket recipient, with suggestions including a 10-year club membership, tickets to the Grand Final, or a photo with a favourite player or team.
"We think it is a really big deal," Mr Demetriou said this week in an interview with Sunday Herald Sun columnist Shane Crawford.
