White's fightBy Paul Daffey
Fri 17 Feb, 2012RICHMOND midfielder and small forward Matt White is known for his speed, but he will want to get on his bike if he's to save his spot on the Tigers' list.
The 25-year-old is in the last year of his contract. With so many young players coming through, he knows he must perform this season if he's to remain at the club.
He's up for the challenge. He says he's had his biggest summer in the gym. He's hoping for an injury-free season.
"It's just pretty much go out there and have a crack," White told afl.com.au after a training session at Punt Rd.
The pacy Tiger had a forgettable season in 2011. He broke his ribs and strained medial ligaments. His fight with injuries led to him being dropped.
The saving light was that selectors had enough faith to pick him in the final game of the season, against North Melbourne. White said he played all right. It gave him hope.
"I've got plenty more left in me," he said. "Whether it's in the midfield or forward or wherever, I'll be giving 100 per cent all year."
White is hoping to embark on a traineeship with the fire brigade. More immediately, he wants to regain his place in the Tigers' team. He wants to add to his 82 games and 39 goals.
"I'm fighting fit," he said. "I've got no issues. I'm flying again."
