22 Feb, 2012 AS Mildura winds down from being Tigerland for the past two days, Richmond’s players and coaches have praised the city and the turnout.
With Sunraysia being part of the Tigers’ old recruiting zone, the AFL side jumped at the chance to return for their Australia Post AFL Community Camp this year.
Club coach Damien Hardwick said the city had a history of producing quality AFL/VFL players.
“It’s been a good crop of grass for us around here with Dale Weightman, Mark Lee, and Matthew Knights among others coming from Mildura,” he said during a civic welcome in the Langtree Mall yesterday afternoon.
“We like to give back us much as we can, and we’re still having fun as well.
“I’ve been out (to Mildura) a couple of times, not so much in an official capacity, it’s still hot,” he laughed.
Captain Chris Newman also said many great players had come out of Mildura, especially Richmond players.

22 Feb, 2012 LOCAL footy fans could hardly believe their eyes as they watched an AFL club training session on one of their ovals.
Richmond ran a full-blown training session on the surface of Sarah Oval, home of the South Mildura Bulldogs.
A crowd of about 200 people, including an eager bunch of primary school students stood glued to the boundary line as the Tigers hit the training track.
The Tigers started with light running, followed by kicking drills, getting their skills on target.
That was followed by drills of dummy leads, oriented with decision making.
As part of their recovery from injury, midfielders Trent Cotchin and Nathan Foley did reflex drills off to the side of the group, as the main session’s intensity increased with full ground drills and circle work.
