Some clangers are monumental balls up that cost goals and these are the ones that hurt.  For some reason the same players seem to make these.  These are momentum killers and are what really cost us.  These always seem to happen at pivotal points in the game.  We all know whom these players are and it's not just one off and is the same offenders time and time again.

Looking at one set of stats in isolation can be unfair. Is does not present a complete picture of any one particular player. Take Conca for example (a player that I don't particularly like at the present). Yes he has plenty of clangers, but his possession count is medium to high and so is his Disposal efficiency. In the overall scheme of things, a 2nd year player who is showing positive signs of development with some areas of weakness to work on.

Earlier in the year when Leppa was on Insider on Fox, he said that the players have a license to blaze away with their kicks. I'm pretty certain (well we'd all like to hope anyway) that once the more inexperienced players get their game time up and gain the confidence of being able to take the game on then we'll see less of the chaos bombs that often result in clangers. He said one of the hardest things for a younger player to do was get the footy under pressure and look up a target or roll the dice trying to hit up someone in the corridor. At our stage of development  he said they were happy to just have the ball moving forward.

Handballing it to a teammate who is standing still in the defensive 50 is a clanger imho. I'm lookin at you Matty Dea  :police:

Kicking clangers are the more interesting stat, my nanna can hit a 2 metre handball target

That's a bit unfair, Claws Nanna went #1 in the 2008 Nanna Draft.......recruiters had been watching her closely for 86 years ;)

You can't just look at clangers alone. Kicking efficiency is also important. You need to analysize when the clanger occurred, where it occurred and whether it occurred as a result of pressure. Obviously the most damaging clanger is the one where under no pressure the ball is turned over at a critical stage in the match. With Conca it is important to take into account it is his second year of football. It is pleasing that he is getting a few possessions. He will need to work on his disposal and decision making but with good coaching and experience I am hopeful that Conca will develop into a very good player

have always said stats by themselves are useless. ke and clanger stats in particular almost worthless without watching the game.

on conca said on another thread he looks rushed and almost panic driven with ball in hand.
have seen nothing to suggest from him that this can change too much maybe with experience it may improve but awareness and evasiveness is something that cant be taught these are the things that buy you time or the ability to stand up and free the hands in a tackle.
personally i dont think conca will be an elite player but i think he shows enough to be a long term good solid citizen.
i think in time reece may revert back to being a permanent hbf who can go thru the midfield if need be. seeing whats ahead and being able to run straight at the ball would help atm.

should not go here but when we compare heppell to conca in these areas of the game heppell has it all over him. his awareness and ability to find space in tight and then use well in situations is actually very good.

that is something that has only crept into cocas game recently.

He moves in a way that he creates time for himself, but doesnt sem to realise it at the moment.

Is possibly due to getting more attention from the opposition and having few games where he was pounced on every time he takes possession. That will tend to make young bloke start to rush their disposals
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

Two different type of players they are .I do agree on Conca tho sometimes rushes it and doesn't access the situation right. That comes with maturity and experience tho.Heppell for me overrated reminds of the blues Gibbs.Cant win his own footy and  plays loose with no opponent that's why people rave about him and also lacks speed. He always plays HBF dons havent put him in the guts.Conca has gone in the guts and can win his own footy and can play outside or inside. At the moment Heppell has disposal over him.
