VIDEO: GM of Footy Craig Cameron explains Free Agency and how the Tiges have prepared:

In the past few years, the Club has made specific personnel appointments, pruned its list and sorted out player contracts carefully, to ensure it has the necessary tools to be involved during the league’s inaugural Free Agency period.

“We want to bring in someone who can play for four or five years.  And, we want someone who come in and add to our group, not only through performance on-field, but in a leadership capacity off-field, and have all the values that our footy club holds,” Cameron said.

Melbourne and Port are getting stripped of anything remotely looking like a decent footballer - they might have to merge to form a side

Port and melbourne have nailed down the deck chairs in a bid to have them sink with the rest of the ship and not be pillaged first  :shh

The smaller/weaker interstate clubs will be most at risk with this new mode for player movement. Most players originate from Melbourne and if they are not getting a regular game at their club they will use Free agency to go back home particularly to one of the bigger Victorian clubs. Interestingly no one has gone near the Doggies. This suggests to me either that they are well prepared for the period or have not players of interest that can be exploited with the Free Agency rules.

I'm hoping this also paves the way for a more exciting Trade Period too with less 'big name deals' holding back genuine player movement.

Surprised brissy hasn't been raided or Freo.   I'd leave both of them in a heartbeat, Lyon is the only thing that might temp me with Freo.
