Tough call for Richmond captain-in-waiting Trent Cotchin Jon Ralph
From: Herald Sun
November 03, 2012 TRENT Cotchin's first task as Richmond's captain-in-waiting will be helping decide whether wayward recruit Aaron Edwards deserves a suspension for his arrest for drunkenness.
The Richmond leadership group will sit down with Edwards in coming weeks to discuss any potential penalty after he was fined $550 for being drunk in a public place last Saturday night.
The former West Coast and North Melbourne player is on a one-year contract, with the leadership group needing to balance its hard-line stance on player misbehaviour with the fact he was not yet at the club.
Edwards was picked up by police in Collins St after a day out with former North Melbourne teammates -- and new coach Damien Hardwick joked yesterday the forward's tenure was nearly the shortest in the history of the Richmond Football Club.
Cotchin is set to be named captain after a player vote and the endorsement of the football department and board.
Richmond's senior players are still on leave, with Brett Deledio honeymooning and Daniel Jackson in New York.
Jack Riewoldt and Chris Newman, who recently stood down as captain, are also in the leadership group.
