It'll pass. They are debating it now a vote will be held within the next hour or 2.

Nope that's to do with the debt ceiling which needs to be raised in around 2 months time.

Basically all what happened was the spending which needs to be addressed was kicked down the road further. While the tax rate increased on singles earning over 400k, couples over 450k, capital gains and dividends.
