How many wins will it take to make the 8
« on: April 10, 2013, 12:16:56 PM »
For years the rule of thumb was 12 wins plus a good percentage. ( yes I know we have missed out with 12 before )

Last year shock horror 8th came in with an impressive 14 wins...is this going to be the new norm ?
Is 14 the new 12 ?

Is this a result of too many uncompetitive teams plus a basket case in Melbourne ?

Good news is that our main rivals Carlton/North/ Saints may have to win 14 of their remaining 20 to guarantee finals . Good Luck with that boys

As for the tigers ...must keep on winning especially games that were " put in the bank" like this weekends.

With Melb, GWS & GC not likely to win many games I reckon 13 minimum with a healthy %%% will get you in.

Yep 13 wins and it might boil down to how tired GWS are in round 22 when we play them and how focused we are and thus how big our win is. That will determine I think whether we need to just beat Essendon in rd 23, whether we need to win by over a certain margin or whether we are in the eight and possibly a win against Essendon may get us a home final.

As I have mentioned 13 wins will get you into the Top 8 this year.

Last year it was 14 and should be thereabouts (13-14) again this season with the bottom tier sides likely to struggle to win many games.

Port & the Bulldogs will definitely win more games than last year and with GC and GWS improving and snagging a few extra dubyas, the question is will the Dees take up the slack and lose enough games to cover the bottom tier so tony's prediction comes true?  ;D

I reckon we'll need 13 wins AND a strong % this season to secure a spot in the 8.

You needed 14 wins last year but that was because there were 5 dud teams that hardly won a game. Overrated sides like North and Adelaide were given soft draws in 2012 which they don't have this year so they'll slip back to the chasing pack.  Of those 2102 bottom sides, Port have improved greatly while the Suns should win more than 3 games this year. IMO 13 wins should get you into the finals this year.
