Voss has 2 months to save his job(herald sun)

The Brisbane Lions coach has been told his position is safe until the Round 15 clash with Gold Coast, but after that there are no guarantees.

Brisbane faces the very real prospect of losing all but one of those games.

The club has consistently said Voss would see out the season. Chairman Angus Johnson reiterated this just two weeks ago, saying: "We are going to review his contract at end of year. And . . . we will not be providing running commentary on Michael's position."

However the mood darkened after last week's abysmal performance against Sydney.

Voss will be sacked if the Lions remain uncompetitive in the next eight games.

In that event, senior assistant Mark Harvey will be asked to stand in as caretaker coach.

Chief executive Malcolm Holmes and football manager Dean Warren will be asked to present recommendations on Voss's future to the board after Round 15.

The two-month guarantee eases some pressure on Voss and the board during a period in which the Lions meet Essendon, Collingwood, Geelong and Hawthorn.

Already there is a split among influential supporters and benefactors.

Some wanted Voss gone by the end of May if the side's fortunes did not drastically change.

There is a growing push to make an approach to former Swans coach Paul Roos.

The 2005 premiership coach quickly denied reports linking him to the senior position at Melbourne this week but the door on a return to senior coaching has never been slammed shut.

Roos has said he would reconsider returning to coaching when his children finish school. One has just begun university studies while the other is in his senior year at high school.

Sources close to Brisbane and Fitzroy believe he could be lured to the Lions if given the right level of support.

If the demon's don't improve he could be the second coach to get sacked after Neeld this season.

Hard to see Voss surviving given Brisbane's draw over the next two months. They've got coming up the Eagles, Ess, Carl, Coll, BYE, Freo, Geel and Haw. They could easily be 2-11 after all that and under pressure from supporters and the media, the Lions could sack Voss even before the round 15 derby.

Latest news is his been sacked.

Brisbane have told coach Michael Voss they will not renew his contract after this AFL season, according to a media report.

The Age reported late on Tuesday afternoon that Lions players were called to an unscheduled meeting at 3.30pm (AEST) to be told of the news.

Voss, the three-time Brisbane premiership captain and 1996 co-Brownlow Medallist with James Hird, has coached the Lions since 2009.

He was under growing pressure earlier this season when the Lions won the pre-season premiership, but then struggled badly through the opening rounds.

The pressure had appeared to ease with five wins from their last seven games, starting with the miracle round-13 comeback against Geelong.

"I don't know how I feel, to be honest," Voss told Channel Seven.

"Tomorrow I will wake up and I don't go to work.

"That's all I know.

"The club is dear to me, but what I get a kick out of is that I've gone every day and there's been something to improve in our players.

"I think that's what I will miss the most."

The stunning news will reignite speculation about former Sydney premiership coach Paul Roos.

Melbourne spoke to him after sacking Mark Neeld earlier this season, but he has repeatedly said he does not want to return to coaching.

Well, he was given 3.

He will be remembered for that disastrous 2009 trade period where he traded for Fev. :help

He wasn't sacked. His contract will not be renewed.

In the end he resigned and didn't even see out his contract but at the end of the day it still results in him not being the lions coach anymore.
