If my phone goes off any time after 9:30 with a text message, my missus tells me to put it on silent mode or the phone will be in many pieces if it happens again.

Agreed put your phones on silent and text away I do it. My wife doesn't care as long as the phone is on silent and is not waking the little one.

If phones are on silent and wives/partners still unhappy then they just want too much control.
