Brownlow medallist and triple Brisbane Lions premiership player Simon Black has retired after deciding it was time to give his battered body "a break".

True champion

For a word that is thrown around to often in AFL footy, Simon Black is one player that the description champion is truly deserved

NORTH Melbourne has cut four players from its list ahead of next month's NAB AFL Draft, including former Melbourne No.11 pick Jordan Gysberts.

Delisted alongside Gysberts on Monday were Will Sierakowski, Ayden Kennedy and Ben Mabon.

They join rookies Cameron Richardson and Ben Speight, who were let go before the Gillette Trade Period, and key defender Luke Delaney, who was traded to St Kilda, in departing the Kangaroos this off-season.

CARLTON defender Nick Duigan looks set to retire after coming to the realisation his body will not withstand the rigours of another pre-season.

AFL.com.au understands Duigan, 29, signalled his intention to retire to the Blues soon after returning to training last month.
