Richmond's loss to Melbourne last weekend only highlights a return to the poor defence of the Tigers that has been prevalent in the side for the past three to four years, according to former Sydney defender Brad Seymour.

Seymour told SportsFan that he had serious questions about the side's mental toughness and accused them of having too many passengers.

"Their mental attitude at the minute just stinks to high heaven," Seymour said. "Last year they were prepared to tackle, they were prepared to do the one-percenters and they were prepared to do the hard things for their teammates, but they are not prepared to do that all of a sudden.

"Too many individuals in that side want to sit back and wait for someone else to do the hard work.

"I question whether there are enough players in that side really wanting to pay the price for their teammates, to be prepared to make the seven or eight tackles, be prepared to sacrifice their individual talents for the betterment of the team, I don't see it right now for Richmond."
