Coburg vs Frankston this week
« on: July 12, 2005, 01:32:40 AM »
David Flood was another one on club corner last night:

* He said Foley with 47 possies (27 to half time) and Rix the two stand-outs against Willy but everyone played well.

* Told Wallace all young blokes are in form so whoever Wallace wants will get promoted. Schulz, Morrison, Jackson, Roach (run with roll last 2 weeks - on Woewodin in the Willy game), Foley, Archibald with 3 goals were all very good. Pattison not as good as in past weeks but still did well. A good ol' team effort. Best for the season.

* Average age of Coburg side is just 19 1/2  :o. Youngest side in the VFL just like Richmond is in the AFL.

* Coburg's got Frankston this Sunday 2.00pm at Frankston City Oval. We're still in finals contention according to Flood just a game out and Frankston are one win ahead of us. Must win game.

I've heard Gilmour may be carrying an ankle niggle/injury? He's one of the few who haven't made claims for a senior birth and although he was taken just within the lowest age bracket he is in his second year of AFL. Just wondering if injury is the thing that is holding him back?

Correct MT - he tore a couple of ligaments around his ankle. Slow coming back from it. I think you may also find he but cannot kick the ball very far at the moment and as a result his confidence is down.

Thanks X and WP. Poor Gilly. Hopefully he can get it right and get a good pre-season under his belt.

It's not a bad idea to play Sarge down back to educate him on reading the play and learning where to lead but I still believe his best position is as a forward.

I see Jackson will be FB this week when he'll most likely be a midfielder if and when he plays at AFL level.

Another game and more injuries - Pattison and Limbach injured their ankles badly apparently :(. Didn't hear to what extent though.

If Gaspar doesn't come up you'd reckon Schulz is a certainty for the game against Port Adelaide.

Eric Kuret (Coburg captain) did the Coburg review last night on Club Corner:

* Better players - Schulz in the backline (b.o.g.), Jackson in the midfield winning alot of the hard ball and Foley again consistently getting his hands on the footy.

* Coburg is a game outside the top 8. They would have been in the top 8 if we had knocked off Frankston. Need to win 4 of the last 5 to make the finals.

* Next week: Coburg vs Northern Bullants, Sunday 2.00pm at Preston City Oval.

Will Rix ever be promoted to Richmond?  The more eye candy the better. ;)

Having watched Coburg a fair bit this year I reckon the thing that makes it doubtful that Rix will ever make it onto an AFL list is his skill level. His kicking isn't his greatest strength and could easily be called a weakness. All the other things he is quite good at but his kicking lets him down
