Miller vows to stand for re-election at Tigers

Richmond football director Greg Miller last night revealed he would stand for re-election at the end of the season and had no intention of quitting the Tigers' board following his controversial stand alongside president Clinton Casey in last year's bitter intra-club feud.
With Miller and fellow board member Anthony Mithen up for re-election later this year, Miller has told the club he plans to remain on the board and was hopeful the Tigers could avoid a costly election.
It is also understood that the new-look, low-profile Casey, who earlier this year was considering stepping down, is now more likely to remain at the helm of the club.
Miller, who has also taken over the club's recruiting, emerged from Tuesday night's board meeting still confident the club would achieve a massive financial turn-around this season, along with a profit in 2006 following cost-cutting across the club and improved corporate support and increased membership.
Miller has also seconded the voluntary but regular services of 238-game premiership defender Merv Keane, who now serves alongside him, Wright, football operations boss Paul Armstrong and Terry Wallace on the board's football sub-committee.
While it remained unclear whether Keane would eventually fill the dearth of former players on the board, he regularly attends training and meets Miller twice a week to discuss football and recruiting.
"It was so positive to sit there on Tuesday night and see the board working so well together," said Miller.
"It is a very harmonious group now and I've really enjoyed the involvement with the group of guys pulling in the right direction.
"I know there was some concern or cynicism about how myself and (chief executive) Steve Wright would work together but our relationship's been fine.
"The election last year cost the club $170,000. We're not looking at anything like that in 2005 and I'd be hopeful we could avoid one altogether, but should the challenge arise I'll be standing again."
While Miller said he had not aspired to a board position at the club, he now planned to stay on as a director in the on-going interests of stability.
While the club is unlikely to employ an extra assistant coach next season following financial cuts to the football department in 2005, assistant coach David King looks certain to be promoted from a part-time to a full-time role with the club.
