Port Melbourne    4.2  8.5  11.12  18.11 (119)
Coburg Tigers   2.3  5.6  9.9  10.15 (75)

BEST: Rix, Young, Roach, Polo, Raines, Jackson

GOALS: Rix 2, J.Houlihan,  Rimington, Raines, Polo, Schulz, Gilmour, Kuret, A.Houlihan

ABC Stats:

Player        K  HB  T  M

A.Raines    16  6  22  7
Polo          12  8  20  5
Morrison    13  4  17  7
Jackson     14  5  19  3
Archibald     9  4  13  5

Morrison played with an injured shoulder and was taken off towards the end of the game and had it strapped up.

Coburg were in it at 3/4 time but Port Melbourne with the breeze slammed on the first 6 goals of the last to cruise to an easy win.

The endeavour was good but the skills and decision making of the Coburg players was shocking. Doesn't give you much confidence for the future seeing so many turnovers.

I know they were missing Pattison but sheesh they need more talls and mobile ones at that. I don't know how our young guys are meant to develop properly when they're not playing direct footy and over-handballing.

David Flood on Club Corner 8 Aug (Sport 927)
« Reply #5 on: August 09, 2005, 03:53:49 AM »
David Flood was also on Club corner giving the Coburg wrap:

* 10 players 19 and under; Port Melb had none. We obviously lacked experience. Pretty pleased with the effort though.

* Polo - probably his best game for the year at Coburg. Other better players - Raines - good game; Jackson - solid and Roach.

* Flood was ask why Schulz was not seeing more senior footy? Said Sarge has been pretty solid in second half of year. He was underdone after his ankle injury. Only coming good now. He's still on 20. Last 6-8 games has been good for him to get some continuity and gametime. Sarge is close to senior selection (was an emergency against Freo). Might get a couple of senior games at the end of the year.

* Last 2 matches for the season - Tassie this friday night in Launcestion then Werribee at Werribee Monday week.

* Expects one more good draft for Richmond and we'll be on our way in 1-2 years. Deledio, Thursfield, Tambling, Foley, Pattison, Moore in the senior side now with Raines, Jackson, Sarge etc knocking on the door. Plough's got one eye on this year and one eye on 2006.

I caught the game on ABC. Polo was our best.

He is good around the packs and gets the pill at center clearences. I was impressed the way he goes at the pill - quite hard at it.

He is rather tall, Deledio size hight. Good size for a midfeilder.
