Summary:
* Waiting to see what everyone is talking about and where players are going to go. We would be in a bit of trouble if we were still making decisions at this time.
* This is the most open draft he's seen. Guys picked at 1 or 2 could go 5, 6 or 8 or 9; guys overlooked at 5 could go at 20. That's going to make predicting what will happen at our picks 33 & 52 pretty tough. We've got our draft order and we'll stick to that. We don't want to juggle too many things and outsmart ourselves. We'll stick to picking the players we want.
* There's 3-4 guys we'll strongly consider at pick 12. Obviously, we would like the guys that go 1 & 2 as there's a consenus they are in the top 4-5 players but we're very confident there will be a very good player at 12 who will be a long-term player for us. He might not play a lot of footy next year given where we are at but he'll play a couple of games I'm sure.
* We've got some scenarios. We've been planing a few things in the weeks leading up to the draft - what player would be available; what type of player we need to balance our list with; talked to a lot of the managers and the kids themselves about where they sit with respect to other clubs. As I said we don't want to outsmart ourselves shuffing picks around. We've got our order with guys in safe spots and we'll stick to that. We may to think on our feet tonight given it's a very open draft from 30 through to 50.
* Great that our list management has given us a few more picks this year. It's all been planned. We predicted 12-18 months ago that this would be a strong draft. So we're happy to take our picks to the draft and draft a lot of kids. Tried something in trade week that didn't come off but we weren't going to trade for the sake of it. We'll back ourselves to pick a number of good players.
