SuperFooty looks at your club’s list ahead of 2015 and wonders how it might rise or fall

Herald-Sun
March 27, 2015

WE HEAR it all the time. Not just in footy, but every sport.

This athlete or that team has “plenty of upside”. As each season begins and fans look at their club, daring to dream about what may be for the year ahead, thoughts start to wander ... “Where can we get better? And where might we drop off?”

For some teams the likely improvements are more obvious than others, such as new additions to the playing list. For others, you may have to delve a little deeper.

So as the clock ticks and the start of the 2015 AFL season approaches, SuperFooty is asking ... What’s changed at your club from last season that can help it propel itself up the table?

RICHMOND

2014: 8th

UPSIDE: The Tigers are close to joining that next echelon of contenders. But they need the next rung to take a step up in class. Brandon Ellis did it last season, now the next wave must follow as too much is left to Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin, Brett Deledio and Jack Riewoldt. It’s time for Ty Vickery, Reece Conca, Nick Vlastuin and Ben Lennon to step up. The good news they are all early draft picks ready to blossom - if they are good enough.

DOWNSIDE: We saw early last year what happened when injuries struck key players in Alex Rance and Ivan Maric. The Tigers’ depth was tested and so was the player’s mental toughness, and they came up short on both counts. Everyone at the club says they learnt from the experience, we’ll find out how much when the heat is turned up again this year.

Premiership: $26

To make the 8: $2.15
