Hopefully the MCG deal gets changed for the finals - just wish Richmond had that privilege in the 1970s when we had to play finals at VFL Park.

Anyway, I assume that one of the reasons the MCG might be prepared to change the deal is that it is becoming more obvious that non-Vic teams will continue to dominate the competition so better for the MCG to chase more big vic club games during the season rather than worry about a prelim final that may not involve any - also given they will get a prelim if a vic team happens to get up there.

I think this is also why the AFL is so keen to promote special rounds during the season - they need something to keep the vic football public interested (and their wallets open) noting that in most years, the vast majority of vic club supporters will have no involvement or direct interest in finals.

The AFL have stuck to the bare minimum of MCG games and reduced the quality of games there to force the MCC's hand. The MCC know they have to renegotiate the deal for their own sake.

Ron Evans wont be happy, him and his catering company will miss out on all the pie and beer money from the Prelim

As part of the new deal the MCG is apparently getting a larger slice of the "better" games and more Friday nights from now on. Hopefully with our improved form this year and the falling away of other large Vic clubs some those extra matches go to us as home games next year.

The deal's been done and the Pies have been given a dream fixture for at least the next 5 years  .

* Removing the requirement to play one preliminary final per year at the MCG when two interstate teams earn the right to a home game.
* Ensuring all Preliminary finals played in Victoria to be played at the MCG
* Allowing greater flexibility to bank finals in weeks one and two, with the clause amended to ensure 10 matches are played over five years
* Delivering an additional 4 Home and Away matches to the MCG each season, taking the number of matches played to 45
* Delivering 14 Collingwood Home and Away matches at the MCG
* The MCG will host Representative football matches if they are scheduled in Melbourne
* Provision to review the Agreement every five years, but only to the mutual benefit of both parties.

Out of those 4 additional games 2 have to automatically go to the Pies to increase their "quota" up from 12 this year to 14 in 2006  .

Good on Collingwood for getting themselves a good deal.
Maybe I'm just a bit jealous that they seem to be able to sell ice to the eskimos when it comes to the MCG  because since they moved there about 5 minutes ago I keep getting the feeling that it was a coup rather than a co-tenancy arrangement.

IIRC we may have had 17 games at the MCG in 2001 or 2002

I heard Clinton Casey (remember him) being interviewed on 3aw before the Carlton game and he mentioned that the Club was currently in negotiations with the MCG to improve the tigers deal at the MCG

I could be wrong WP, but I'm pretty sure those 17 MCG games were before Telstra Dome was even built.

It won't be soon enough that we get a better deal at the MCG for me.  We played the Bulldogs at TD last time and this time we're playing our home game against them, also at their home ground.  Seeing as we don't get much of a choice (not that the AFL's dictatorial or anything  ) we have to play there whether we like it or not, but it would be nice to play our home games at our true 'home' venue.

Agree TS. In fact I would be happy if the club agreed to away strips, playing away games anywhere, 6 or even more non-Vic away games, whatever the AFL want - as long as the club can play its home games at its real choice of home ground.

It was pre-Dome days TS. In 1999.

We had 17 games at the 'G, 2 at Footy Park and one each at Waverley and Subiaco. Our record was 7-10 that year at the 'G yet we won 2 from 3 interstate!

I see where you’re coming from MT, but I reckon we should take our chances with being called Richmond.

Over a period of time maybe 5 years...RFC should put up unofficial candidates for the MCC committee. We have the worst deal at the MCG and thats a disgrace. We seem to have no influence at all...so maybe political action is needed
