Richmond ranked between seventh and 11th in major AFL stats categories Ben Waterworth

May 08, 2015 4:29PMIF RICHMOND’S sponsorship department is on the prowl for an organisation to partner with, 7-Eleven would be a “good call”.
Not only is it the largest petrol and convenience retailer in Australia, the company’s title is an accurate reflection of where the Tigers stand at present.
The Tigers are ranked between seventh and 11th in the AFL across an array of major stats categories. They include disposals (ninth), contested possessions (11th), uncontested possessions (ninth), marks (10th), tackles (11th), inside 50s (eighth) and points scored (ninth).
And where do the Tigers currently sit on the AFL ladder? Eleventh.
Former Hawthorn forward Ben Dixon cheekily raised the potential sponsorship on Fox Footy’s League Teams on Thursday night.
“Everyone wonders where they (the Tigers) are each year. And that’s where they’re at: (between) seven and 11,” Dixon said.
“(Jack) Riewoldt kicks three goals, but Cotchin and the likes are kicking ones. Their spread’s got to be better and their midfield spread’s got to be better. They’re having 30 (disposals), but no impact.”
Five-day, five-night premiership player Dermott Brereton said the stats and Richmond’s ladder position is a true reflection of where the team is at.
“They master nothing. I don’t mean that as an insult, (but) they are masters of no area of the game,” Brereton said.
“They’re competent, they’re good and they beat teams they’re supposed to beat. (But) anyone in the same vicinity as them … disappointing.”
The Tigers (2-3) travel to Hobart to take on North Melbourne, which has the same win-loss ratio as Damien Hardwick’s men. The loser of the match will find it hard to escape the criticism of pundits and the footy community during the aftermath.
Richmond assistant coach Ben Rutten acknowledged the club’s topsy-turvy start to the season but said his team is confident of turning its fortunes around against the Kangaroos.
“We haven’t quite had the consistency we would’ve hoped for. But It’s a really tough draw and every game’s a really tough one,” Rutten told Fox Sports News.
“This game (against North Melbourne) is going to be really important for us and we know North is two and three also.”
