The Tigers are within reach of the top four, but veteran Chris Newman knows the next few weeks are risky business.
They sit fifth on the ladder but could be out of the top eight if they lose their next two matches against the Hawks and Adelaide.
Newman, 33, said the team has finally found its rhythm - he just hopes it can keep it.
“I think the way we’ve been playing has been reasonably consistent, so that’s a great step for our club,” he said on SEN radio.
“I think it’s a sign of a group that’s maturing and learning a lot.
“We feel like we’re relatively well-placed at this time of the year, but we also know that the gap between fifth and 13th or 14th is very tight. We’ve got a very tough draw coming up, we’ve got some big games, so we need to be at our absolute best to be in the mix.
“There’s no bigger test on Friday night against the Hawks.”
Richmond will wear its Dreamtime jumper against Hawthorn on Friday night in a show of support for Sydney star Adam Goodes as the booing furore continues.
Newman says the decision was reached between the playing group and the club’s executive, and was “unanimous”.
“We were all pretty keen to show our support for Adam and felt like wearing our indigenous jumper on the weekend was the best way to do that,” he said.
Teammate Jack Riewoldt also shared his support for the initiative today.
“I’m proud of my club @Richmond_FC,” he tweeted.
“The @AFL is a family that continually shows its strength and support of its own.”- with Glenn McFarlane
