Tigers insist Chaplin will play despite light duties

RICHMOND is adamant Troy Chaplin will take his place in the team for Sunday's elimination final against North Melbourne despite the defender being on light duties at training on Tuesday.

Chaplin trained away from the main group at the ME Bank Centre on Tuesday morning, joining the rehab group with Ben Griffiths, Corey Ellis, Matt Thomas, Dan Butler and Nathan Drummond.

The key defender trained in his runners and completed light handballing and reflex work before leaving the track after 20 minutes and disappearing inside to do some more work.

But the Tigers say he is just battling some soreness after the weekend and they have decided to manage him early in the week to avoid any worries ahead of Sunday's game.

In good news for the Tigers, Reece Conca was back training with the main midfield group after shaking off a hamstring complaint.

"Reece has had two good weeks of training now and he's available to play this week," Tigers' high performance manager Peter Burge told the club's website.

Griffiths trained with a glove on his left hand and is only a week away from resuming after recovering from finger surgery.

"Ben's ahead of schedule but he probably needs another week. We're hoping to have him available after Sunday," Burge said.

The Tigers escaped any fresh injuries from last Friday night's match against the Kangaroos and Burge said it was important the club used the nine-day break to full advantage.

"We've got a really good template for it, and we should be fine," he said.

"Everything will be as normal. We'll recover well, we'll train. Nothing really changes.

"The guys have matured and they know exactly what to do, so they'll be ready."
