Four Tigers had minor hip surgery at the end of the season – Nick Vlastuin, David Astbury, Kane Lambert and Ben Lennon – while ruckman Shaun Hampson underwent a minor ankle cleanout.

Richardson said all would be ready for day one of the pre-season.

The message to players in the end-of-season review was that the team had improved and produced a good season, but now needed to reproduce that level in a final.

"We need to get better, but there's not doubt there's plenty of improvement in us as a team and we need to keep working hard to get that," Richardson said.

Richmond's first- to fourth-year players will return to the club on November 13, with the full group back on November 27.

Hip surgery/clean outs seem to the things these days

Every year (and this is at all clubs) it seems the number of blokes having hip surgery (clean outs) is growing

Wonder what sort impact the harder grounds the play on these days has on the hips  :huh

Hip Impingement surgery has increased due to the success it has in reforming and aiding in healing of torn tissues around the hip joint. Being the joint the with most muscular attachments around it and the most integral in the walking and running gait, its become far more popular. Most people actually have an irregularity of one form or another on the head of the femur, and the "shaving" of the bone is believed to also aid in preventing arthritis and other issues later on.

But honestly its likely a load of baloney in most cases. If sports scientists says its necessary, clubs just do it without asking questions. Don't forget, surgeons make a ton of money of minor surgeries like this.

Wonder why they waited, just part of our brilliant player injury management plan I suppose.. :whistle

Excellent, not the surgery but the fact he'll miss the Int'l rules  :clapping

Actually it's very smart.  :clapping :clapping

Means he can't play international rules and run the risk of getting injured over there. Will be right for start of pre-season which is far more important for us than some nothing hybrid game  :clapping
