Richard Anderson, Mark Jones and others

Going back over last 20 years on 2 or 3 occasions our top picks stayed away from Punt Rd. Richard Anderson and Mark Jones come to mind. Does anyone know if they were ever any good...anyone know what they ever achieved in footy in SA.

I remember reading something about that Anderson guy, apparently it had something to do with him being a teacher is why he didn't come across!

Andrew Payze (from SA) stayed away too and when the Corws joined the comp he was one of their original players - didin't play many games though. Back in those days I am sure AFL clubs had to be compensated ($$ wise) by the Crows

Brett Chalmers also gave us the cold shoulder too.

When he did come over he wasnt that good anyway.

I remember that Ben Holland was originally drafted to Fitzroy and wouldnt come across to them, gee he was worth the wait when we picked him up :scream

I wish Richard Lounder had given us the cold shoulder  ;D.

If these guys were any good they would have ended up in the AFL later on and made a name for themselves. I don't remember them doing much in the SANFL either. We might have missed out on Mark Jones but in the same 1992 draft we scored Rogers, Bulluss and the late Jamie Tape who were all part of our 95 finals campaign.

Chalmers had said he wouldn't come over but we selected him with pick 103 anyway and took a chance on trying to change his mind. So no loss there.

Payze was a mid-season draft pick when they existed in the early 90's. We got Scotty Turner in the same mid-season draft  :thumbsup.

Daffy was a first relatively successful SA pick-up in 1990. Torney was pick 29 in 1994.
