Police uncovered 34 stolen Richmond Football Club jumpers after a search in Brighton East and are now appealing for witnesses to come forward to help solve the mystery of who took them.

Investigators believe the individually numbered jumpers were stolen outside a sports ground on Glenhuntly Road in Elsternwick between 7am and 9am on Friday 8 May.

Police uncovered the jumpers when they searched a home in Roseberry Avenue in Brighton East on Thursday morning.

Investigators also uncovered ammunition and other stolen items.

A spokeswoman for the Richmond Football Club said the 34 training jumpers were ordered for one of the club's NAB Challenge games, but were the wrong colour.

The club sent the jumpers back to its supplier, who then delivered them to the Victorian Amateur Football Association.

The Victorian Amateur Football Association has been contacted for comment.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the jumpers being stolen to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
