Terrible news. As I posted above, the lip is so vascular, a cancer like melanoma will spread so quickly that by the time you notice it, it is likely to be too late.

I was very surprised that he came back so quickly last year with just an excision of the lesion performed. I would have thought he would have gone through a course of the preferred chemotherapy used these days at the time too. I would now be pushing for early use of MK-3475 if he can get it.

Once melanoma has spread the picture is grim.

hey doc how much do these drugs cost? Ronny Walker has been heard talking about some drug he used, so i would presume it has plenty of zero's in it.

Why dont they put it on the PBS??

Think it has been Angus, earlier this year

Up until then it cost $250k - $500k a treatment

Thanks WP

that would explain why ive heard more and more people using the drug this week.

So  why wasn't it on there earlier? Does it cost that much to produce?

PBS application occurred in March 2015 and was granted PBS listing on September 1st 2015.

Its trade name is Keytruda.

Just like to add that at this point in time, Keytruda is only indicated if you are at Stage 3 or 4 (advanced / unresectable) melanoma.

Hopefully he isn't quite at that point. :pray

so let me get this right

ronald was taking the pill and was actually paid top dollar at that time?

Yet he fought the good fight for us average australians to have it listed on the PBS?

If so he is a dead set legend, no question about that.

I respect people like that a great deal.

Yes Mr Walker did that, but he campaigned with a lot of other people including leading doctors etc

But he certainly was the most high profile of those, also helped that he is a major financial backer of the political party that approved it for the PBS. ONLY (IMHO) because he had the contacts, didn't have to go through department after department (read read tap).

He did a great thing

Cancer is a bas-tard

Good luck again Rough you star
Well said and best wishes to Roughy.

The thing with Cancer is you see people go through all the horrible chemo and radiotherapy and it can still cruelly get them in the end or, if they do recover, there's no knowing if it'll return or not. As you say Damo, it's a bas-tard of disease.

Roughy had an excellent response to the immune therapy. He is now melanoma free which is fantastic news. I can tell you he really suffered with the therapy but he looks to have come through it well. Best wishes to him and his family.
