Here we come pt. 2
« on: June 06, 2017, 11:56:58 PM »
I've decided to make a new thread for this because the mods decided to merge "making the 8" topics to the original one and completely missed/ruined the point of the thread. It was always about the long game and still is...

Our half step back rebuild is complete. We've got games into some quality young kids who are now understanding how we want to play and what is required of an AFL footballer. By no means are we finished however, we will still be playing a blend of kids with older stop gap players but this is where the improvement begins. We will now be able to weed out the ones we don't want/need anymore and they will be gone at seasons end while the kids will continue to develop and get games. It's time for our 2 steps forward to begin...

I was going to bump this after the GWS loss but decided to wait until the bye and here we are. How do others think how mini rebuild has fared? Do you think Dimma's 1 step back for 2 steps forward has been justified even slightly? I personally have loved the new endeavour and the progress of some of our younger kids. It's still a continuing process but I think his vision is finally starting to be seen by others

We all jumped on Richmond coach Damien Hardwick when he said the Tigers needed to take one step back to take two steps forward, but he appears to be having the last laugh.

I think you can choose that narrative if you want, makes for a good story. I'm not convinced the "half step back" and the resurgence are necessarily on the same timeline.

lol what timeline are they on Dougey?  This isn't back to the future mate, there is only one timeline, we were told what was going to happen, they played a lot of kids, stuffed around with positions, wore the poo shower, recruited for needs  and then changed the melody for this year.  Made perfect sense to me, it was in chronological order, it fit and fulfilled the statement and now we enjoy the amazing patience and perseverance we all showed by watching that step forward.

Correlation does not imply causation.

Were there not a tremendous amount of changes made at the club after those comments were made? Were Neil Balme and Blake Caracella part of the big picture rd 5 last year?

I'm a happy chappy right now with where we are at and whats being developed, don't get me wrong. And I'm sure that Dimma knew after about round 5 last year the season was shot, so credit is certainly due. I'm just not sure the "half step back" comments had the big picture in mind, rather it was a consorted effort at various forms off the back of the second half of the season and post-season. I'm also very aware it can all come crashing down with a few poor performances - remember 2000? We were 8-4 after round 12.

I'm think I'm just not ready to start the back-slapping just yet  :gotigers

Hmm....
