Why the Tigers’ AFL premiership odds are tumbling

Lincoln Moore,
The Advertiser
12 July 2019

The team the bookies fear isn’t necessarily the one at the top of the premiership market or sometimes even the one sitting second or third.

Talking to the traders at Ladbrokes, Geelong and Collingwood are less of a concern for them as, wait for it … Richmond.

They’ve been keeping the Tigers safe for some time but their feelings became evident after round 15 when Richmond’s premiership odds with Ladbrokes were slashed from $15 to $8.50.

After the Tigers’ romp on the Gold Coast at the weekend, they were trimmed up again to $7.50 to sit on the fourth line of betting behind the Cats ($3.25 > $3.50), the Eagles ($6 > $4) and the out of form Magpies ($4.50 > $6.50) and shorter than the Giants.

That the bookies are keeping the sixth placed team on the ladder so safe in the betting is a clear indication they rate them as a major premiership contender.
